Train ticket prices by route and service
Open a fare guide for class comparisons, station choices and booking details.
1. Distance
Longer routes cost more in every class — a Karachi–Lahore fare is naturally higher than a short regional hop like Lahore–Wazirabad.
2. Class
Economy is cheapest, AC Standard and AC Sleeper sit in the middle, and AC Business — offered only on a handful of premium trains — is the most expensive tier. See our class comparison.
3. Train
Premium named services (Green Line, Business Express) are priced above regional Express, Mail, Passenger, and Shuttle trains covering a similar distance.
Where to book
You can book at any station's booking counter, through Pakistan Railways' official online ticketing channels, or via their mobile app. Online booking windows open a set number of days ahead of departure — AC classes on high-demand routes like Karachi–Lahore tend to sell out well before Economy does, so booking early matters more for AC Standard and AC Business than for Economy.
Cancellations & refunds
Refund amounts depend on how far ahead of departure you cancel — cancelling closer to departure typically reduces what you get back. Read our full refund guide before cancelling a ticket.
Ticket Pricing FAQs
Answers to the questions people usually need before tracking a train, checking timing, or planning a trip.
- Three things mainly: distance travelled, the class you book (Economy, AC Standard, AC Sleeper, or AC Business), and the specific train — premium services like Green Line and Business Express are priced higher than regional Passenger or Shuttle trains covering a similar distance.
- Tickets can be booked at any station's booking counter, through Pakistan Railways' official online ticketing channels, or via their mobile booking app. Online booking windows typically open a set number of days ahead of departure, and AC classes on popular routes sell out faster than Economy.
- Yes, Pakistan Railways has a cancellation and refund process, though the refund amount depends on how far ahead of departure you cancel. See our full refund guide for the specifics before you cancel.
- Fares are set by Pakistan Railways centrally, so the base price for a given train, route and class should match whether you book online or at a counter. Availability, not price, is usually the difference between the two channels.
