- PakTrainLive reads from Pakistan Railways' GPS tracking feed, which comes directly from hardware devices fitted to locomotives. The devices transmit coordinates to a central server and we pull that data into our own system every 30 seconds. You are seeing the same raw GPS signal that Pakistan Railways operations staff use — we just present it in a way that makes sense for passengers.
- Each card shows: the train's current GPS coordinates plotted on an interactive map, its live speed in km/h, the delay it is carrying in minutes (positive = late, negative = ahead of schedule), estimated arrival times at all remaining stations on its route, a journey progress bar, and the last time the GPS device sent an update. Tap or click the card to expand it.
- ETAs are calculated by taking the official timetable arrival time and adding the delay the train is currently carrying. In practice this is accurate to within a few minutes for trains on open track. Accuracy drops when a train is waiting at a passing loop or crossing, since delays can change quickly there. We recommend checking again 20–30 minutes before you expect to arrive at the station.
- No — PakTrainLive is a completely independent project. We are not affiliated with Pakistan Railways, the Ministry of Railways, or any government body. We use publicly accessible data from Pakistan Railways' infrastructure and present it in a more passenger-friendly format. For ticketing, refunds, or official complaints, you must contact Pakistan Railways directly on their helpline: 117.
- Any passenger train on the Pakistan Railways network that has an active GPS device on its locomotive will appear on PakTrainLive. This covers express services, mail trains, passenger locals, and AC business services running from Karachi to Peshawar, from Quetta to Lahore, and all routes in between. Trains without a functioning GPS unit on a given day will not show a live position.
- Never. There is no sign-up flow, no email confirmation, and no login screen. Open the site and every feature — live map, journey planner, station finder, push notifications — works immediately. We believe that live train information is a public good and should require zero friction to access.
- Yes — the site is built mobile-first. The map, train cards, search, and all other features resize and reflow for small screens. It loads fast even on 3G connections because we keep the page lightweight. You can also add PakTrainLive to your home screen from your browser's share menu for quick access without typing the URL.

Once you allow it, we store a subscription token (not your phone number or email) and use it to push delay alerts and arrival reminders to your device.
